About NICAS

The Northern Ireland Carp Anglers Society was formed on the 5th October 1999. This was a result of a change in government policy to allow the introduction of carp into the province for angling purposes. The aim of the carp society is to promote responsible carp angling within N. Ireland. NICAS is also committed to providing the opportunity for the disabled and junior angler to fish safely and responsibly in regards to the welfare of the fish they catch. The lakes at Dromore were originally trout lakes and had laid derelict for 5 years. This resulted in a lot of hard work by members of the society being carried out before carp could be introduced. All three lakes are well stocked with fish supplied from a reputable source in England. The middle lake is approximately 1/2 acre in size and has a total of 80 carp stocked with fish to 17lb and would be ideal for the novice angler. The top lake is approximately 2 acres in size and has a total of 140 carp stocked with fish to 25lb plus. The bottom lake is approximately 1 1/2 acres in size and has a total of 300 carp with fish to 20lb. All lakes contain islands and many other underwater features especially the top and bottom lakes and therefore require more effort from the angler. Annual membership to the society are available (see rates). Toilet and cooking facilities are available on site. Accommodation can be arranged in the local area of Dromore.
